If you’re feeling like a bit of exercise, you can easily walk from Galle Fort to the railway station. The walk takes around 15-20 minutes, depending on how fast you’re moving—so no need to rush. Stroll through the charming streets, enjoy the colonial-era buildings, the fishing boats on the beach and maybe even grab a fresh coconut along the way.

If you’re walking from Galle Fort to the railway station, here’s a simple route that will get you there in no time.
- Start at the Galle Fort Main Entrance: Step out of the Fort through the main gate (also known as the Lighthouse entrance). Take a moment to appreciate the views, but don’t get too distracted by the coastline—we’ve got a train to catch!
- Head Towards the Clock Tower: Walk straight along the road towards the Galle Clock Tower. This iconic landmark will guide you in the right direction.
