The Bungalow – Buzzing Bistro Energy

If you’re looking for somewhere with a lively vibe and consistently good food, The Bungalow should be at the top of your list. This place is always buzzing, which probably tells you everything you need to know.
I made the rookie mistake of showing up without a booking and missed out on dinner (rookie move, I know). Thankfully, they squeezed me in for lunch the next day and it did not disappoint. From hearty mains to refreshing drinks, everything here hits the spot.
Tip: Book at least a day in advance if you don’t want to play the “maybe I’ll get a table” game.
Pedlar’s Inn Café – A Galle Fort Classic

Nestled right in the heart of Pedlar’s Street, Pedlar’s Inn Café is pure Galle Fort magic. Think cozy, vintage vibes with a relaxed old-world charm. The seafood here is worth a try. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented.
The service? Laid back and friendly. The kind that makes you feel like you’ve been coming here for years. It’s the perfect spot for a long lunch or romantic dinner after exploring the Fort.
The Ivy Frangipani – Great Vibes & Live Music

If you’re after a more upbeat scene, The Ivy Frangipani is the place to be. Outdoor seating, live music, generous portions, and a fun, social atmosphere, it’s the perfect combo for a relaxed evening.
The menu is a mix of Sri Lankan and international dishes, offering something for everyone. The prices are fair, the staff are friendly, and the overall vibe is effortlessly cool.
Just one little word of warning — skip the pizza if you’re starving (it’s a little more “snack-sized” than meal-sized). Otherwise, you’re in for a treat.
Fort Bazaar – Colonial Charm Meets Modern Luxury (My personal favorite).

Housed in a lovingly restored 17th-century building, Fort Bazaar is both a boutique hotel and one of the best places to eat in Galle Fort. Perfect for those who love refined, flavorsome food. The hotel’s restaurant, Church Street Social, serves up a mix of International and contemporary Sri Lankan dishes.
Expect colourful mezze plates, fresh salads, grilled seafood, and hearty mains, all made with locally sourced ingredients. The atmosphere is elegant but unpretentious, with high ceilings, tiled floors, and soft lighting that make it perfect for a romantic dinner or a relaxed evening with friends. One of my personal favorites.
Why it’s great:
- A stunning colonial setting that captures the true essence of Galle Fort.
- Exceptional food and cocktails — ideal for brunch, lunch, or dinner.
- Part of one of the most charming boutique hotels in the Fort.

Set inside a beautifully restored colonial building, this restaurant blends old-world charm with modern, minimalist design. The result? A relaxed yet elegant dining spot that perfectly fits the Fort’s laid-back vibe.

The menu leans towards modern Asian and Sri Lankan fusion cuisine, using fresh local ingredients and creative twists on traditional dishes. Think beautifully presented seafood, flavour-packed curries, and refreshing cocktails that pair perfectly with the tropical climate.

If you’re in the mood for something sophisticated but still warm and inviting, The Archives Galle Fort is a beautiful choice. Set in a restored colonial building, this restaurant blends old-world elegance with modern Sri Lankan hospitality. Think candlelit tables, polished wooden floors, and that unmistakable Fort charm that makes every meal feel special.

- Perfect for seafood lovers and anyone looking to treat themselves.
- The ambiance is effortlessly elegant. A mix of heritage charm and contemporary flair.
Chambers Restaurant – Middle Eastern Flavours in the Fort

If you’re craving something a little different from the usual rice-and-curry scene, Chambers Restaurant on Church Street is a must-try. This vibrant spot brings a burst of Middle Eastern and Moroccan flavours right to the heart of Galle Fort. The décor is just as inviting as the menu. Think colourful lanterns, patterned tiles, and that dreamy Arabic-inspired atmosphere that instantly makes you feel like you’ve been transported somewhere exotic.
Expect generous mezze platters, tender kebabs, fragrant tagines, and plenty of vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. The food is packed with spice and flavour, perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. It’s no surprise people rave about it. One diner summed it up perfectly: “We had to come here twice because the food was so good!”
Why it’s great:
- A fantastic halal-friendly option in the Fort, offering something refreshingly different.
- Gorgeous décor inspired by Moroccan and Arabic design (hello, photo-worthy corners!).
- Ideal for sharing dishes, relaxed dinners, and anyone who loves a bit of spice with their travel experience.
AQUA Pizza – Authentic Neapolitan Pizza in the Heart of the Fort

And for all the pizza lovers out there (guilty as charged), AQUA Pizza on Leyn Baan Street is a total winner. This little gem serves authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in a wood-fired oven, with that perfect combination of a crispy crust and soft, chewy centre. It’s the real deal, quality ingredients, delicious toppings, and all the cozy, rustic charm you could want.
You’ll find a mix of classic and gourmet pizzas, with vegetarian and vegan-friendly choices too. The vibe is relaxed yet stylish. Perfect for a casual dinner with friends or a laid-back date night. And if you book early, grab a seat where you can watch the pizza magic happen right by the oven (it’s oddly satisfying).
Why it’s great:
- A perfect break from curry and seafood
- Open daily from around midday to 10 pm, so you can swing by for lunch or dinner.
- Loved by both locals and travellers.
The Fort Printers – Refined Dining in a Boutique Heritage Hotel

For a touch of elegance and history rolled into one, The Fort Printers looks to be a standout dining experience in Galle Fort. Housed in a beautifully restored 18th-century mansion that once served as a printing press, this boutique hotel combines heritage charm with understated luxury and its restaurant is listed one of the best fine dining spots in Galle Fort. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to dine here on this trip, but it’s right at the top of my list for when I return to Galle Fort (and that will be very soon!).

The menu celebrates fresh, locally sourced ingredients with a focus on Mediterranean-inspired dishes and Sri Lankan flavours. Think grilled seafood straight from the coast, vibrant salads, and perfectly balanced curries, all beautifully plated. From the doorway, the setting looked intimate, with soft lighting, high ceilings, and an air of colonial sophistication.
It’s the kind of place that would be perfect for a romantic dinner, a special occasion, or simply unwind with great food and a glass of wine in a timeless atmosphere.
Why it’s great:
- One of the top fine dining restaurants in Galle Fort, offering both style and substance.
- Elegant courtyard and indoor dining options in a historic boutique hotel.
- Fresh, seasonal dishes that highlight the best of local produce and seafood.
Roti Stalls – Street Food with a Kick
Sometimes, the best meals are the simplest. Near the lighthouse side of town, you’ll find a couple of roti stalls that serve up fiery, flavor-packed street food for just a few rupees.
These rotis are soft, filling, and usually spicy. Like, “I-need-a-drink-now” spicy. But they’re also absolutely delicious. Perfect for when you’re exploring and want something quick and authentic. That’s why they feature in my best places to eat in Galle Fort blog.
Tip: Ask for “mild” if you’re not into burning your taste buds off. And definitely grab a cold drink to go with it!
Bonus: Spa Ceylon – For a Sweet Treat & Souvenirs

Okay, Spa Ceylon isn’t a restaurant, but it deserves an honorable mention. After all that walking and eating, treat yourself to a little pampering. Their luxury spa products make amazing souvenirs, and if you’ve been on your feet all day, I highly recommend their foot massage.
It’s basically like having your feet reborn. The perfect end to a long day of exploring and indulging in Galle’s culinary scene.
